Cuba's 5 centavos ran essentially unchanged across nearly five decades and several radically different political regimes — from the U.S.-backed republic through the Batista years. Production was interrupted during World War II when nickel was diverted to Allied military use, forcing a gap in the series that collectors sometimes overlook when assembling date runs. The .1, .2, and .3 catalog variants reflect minor die and planchet changes rather than any deliberate redesign.
Mintage ceased after 1961 as the revolutionary government restructured Cuba's coinage entirely.
