| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Liberty occupies the central field, her hair loosely flowing and bound with a diadem inscribed LIBERTAD. The encircling legend ESTADOS UNIDOS DE COLOMBIA runs along the upper periphery within a beaded border. The date 1873 appears in the lower field, flanked on either side by a row of five-pointed stars, all contained within the same beaded border. The portrait, engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon, is rendered in a classical neoclassical style typical of mid-nineteenth-century Latin American coinage. |
