| Additional information |
Ghana has issued an extensive series of large-format silver naturalist coins under foreign licensing arrangements, most produced by European mints — primarily the Bavarian State Mint in Munich — for the collector market rather than any domestic circulation. The European Bison (Bison bonasus) was driven to extinction in the wild by 1927, surviving only in captivity until a reintroduction program beginning in the Białowieża Forest on the Polish-Belarusian border gradually rebuilt a viable population over the following decades.
Current wild numbers remain below 7,000 animals across fragmented European populations.
