| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim, flanked by four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order: top, bottom, right, left. The four-character reign title legend 永昌通寶 (Yongchang Tongbao) fills the fields between the inner and outer rims. The casting is bold and heavy, consistent with a five-cash denomination, with broad flat rims framing the inscription. The coin exhibits an aged patina with green and brown oxidation over the brass substrate. |
