Reverse description The reverse displays the central square hole flanked by two Manchu script characters reading 'Boo Yuan' (ᠪᠣᠣ ᠶᡠᠸᠠᠨ), rendered vertically in raised relief on either side of the aperture, identifying the Board of Works mint. Above the square hole appears the Chinese character 當 (dang, meaning 'equal to' or 'valued at'), and below appears the numeral 五 (wu, 'five'), together indicating a denomination of five cash. Plain inner and outer rims frame the design, consistent with standard Qing dynasty cast coinage practice.
