| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a plain raised inner rim and a broad flat field. Four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) are disposed in the traditional reading order — top, bottom, right, left — forming the reign title and denomination legend 嘉定元寶 (Jiading Yuanbao). The characters are rendered in bold, slightly archaic relief typical of Southern Song iron cash. The coin is heavily encrusted with iron corrosion products, partially obscuring the outer rim. |
