Reverse description Cast reverse centred on a square perforation, with three Chinese characters in Regular script arranged around the central hole: two characters reading 利州 (Lizhou) positioned above the hole, and the numeral 五 (Wu, meaning 'five') positioned below, denoting the denomination and mint provenance. The fields are heavily corroded and encrusted, consistent with an iron alloy coin of Southern Song manufacture, bounded by a plain inner rim and a raised outer rim.
