Anhwei's copper cash production in the early 1900s was chronically inconsistent — the provincial mint at Anqing lacked the technical supervision that better-funded operations like Guangdong enjoyed, and output quality varied considerably between die pairs. Y#35.1 specifically denotes the variety with a particular arrangement of the reverse rosette, distinguishing it from the closely related Y#35.2. Anhwei issues from this period circulated hard in a province where silver was scarce at the village level, and survivors with clean surfaces are genuinely uncommon.
