Obverse description Central square hole (cash hole) surrounded by four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left, forming the legend 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao). The characters are boldly cast with strong relief, occupying the four quadrants of the broad, flat field. A raised inner rim borders the square perforation, and a slightly wider raised outer rim encircles the entire coin. The surfaces show typical patination consistent with bronze casting of the late Yuan–early Ming transitional period.
