| Reverse description | A stylized Chinese lion passant to the left, depicted in bold relief atop a rocky outcrop, with its tail curling upward and its mane rendered in detailed circular curls. Below the lion and the rock, a band of stylized auspicious clouds in traditional Chinese decorative style fills the lower portion of the field. | Additional information |
Szechuan was among the first provinces to declare independence from the Qing dynasty in 1911, and its mint wasted little time retooling for Republican coinage. The province had a long history of producing cash-style coins well into the transition period, blending old denominational conventions with new republican imagery at a moment when no central monetary authority had yet established firm control over provincial minting.
Y#441 is one of several Szechuan provincial types from this chaotic interregnum year, when output consistency varied considerably between strikes.
