Obverse description The national coat of arms of The Gambia occupies the central field, featuring a heraldic shield charged with crossed axes, supported by two rampant lions, and surmounted by a hatched helm with a foliate crest. A scroll beneath the supporters bears the national motto. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1998 appears in the lower field below the arms.
