| Obverse description | Central field displays the ornate quartered arms of Bologna within an oval cartouche, featuring a cross and lion passant in the quarters, surmounted by an elaborate foliate and scroll mantling. A decorative crown or foliate crest appears at the top of the escutcheon. The coin bears no peripheral legend, with the word LIBE appearing within or about the shield, referencing the city's traditional motto of freedom.
