Additional information

Bolivia's postwar monetary situation by 1951 was deteriorating rapidly — inflation was accelerating toward the crisis that would eventually prompt a full monetary overhaul in 1963. This bronze 5 Bolivianos was struck at the Casa de Moneda de Bolivia in Potosí, the same mint that had been producing silver for the Spanish crown since 1574, though by mid-century it was reduced to issuing low-denomination bronze into an economy where such values bought progressively less each month.
