| Obverse description | The Venezuelan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield with a horse, sheaf of wheat, and flags, surmounted by a cornucopia and flanked by olive and palm branches tied with a ribbon bearing three national mottos. The legend REPUBLICA DE VENEZUELA curves along the upper periphery, separated by five-pointed stars, while the denomination 5 BOLIVARES and the date 1973 are inscribed along the lower arc, also flanked by stars. The design is executed in high relief with fine engraved detail throughout. |

| Reverse description | A bare, left-facing bust of Simón Bolívar, El Libertador, dominates the central field, rendered in bold relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and facial features. The legend BOLIVAR curves along the left periphery and LIBERTADOR along the right, both following the coin's inner border. The engraver's signature BARRE appears in small capitals in the lower exergue beneath the truncation of the bust. |
