Obverse description Royal Portuguese coat of arms depicted as a dotted shield, composed of a grid of small dots arranged in a heraldic pattern, centrally placed within the field. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown. The mint letters 'D' and 'A' flank the shield to the left and right respectively, denoting the Damão mint. The entire design is outlined by a border of raised dots, characteristic of the dotted-border coinage of José I for Portuguese India.
