Obverse description Central field features the cantonal arms of Vaud — a divided shield with the motto LIBERTÉ ET PATRIE inscribed in the upper half and diagonal hatching in the lower half — surmounted by an ornate foliate crest. The shield is flanked on either side by upswept laurel branches tied at the base, forming an open wreath. The encircling legend CANTON DE VAUD runs along the periphery, and the date appears in the exergue below the shield.
