Additional information

Israel's small-denomination coinage underwent a complete overhaul in 1985 following the New Israeli Sheqel reform, which replaced the old sheqel at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — one of the more drastic redenominations outside a wartime collapse. The 5 agorot was the smallest coin retained in the new system. By the late 1990s, coins of this value had effectively fallen out of use in daily transactions, though official withdrawal came slowly.
