Obverse description Central field bears the royal tughra (calligraphic monogram) of Mohammed Zahir Shah rendered in ornate Arabic script, flanked to the right by a small decorative emblem. The tughra is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Six five-pointed stars are evenly distributed around the beaded border. The mint name in Arabic script appears at the top of the field above the beaded circle, and the Afghan solar Hijri date (١٣٣٧) is inscribed at the bottom of the field below the beaded circle.
