Obverse description The national emblem of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan occupies the central field: a stylised rising sun set within an arch, flanked by two stalks of wheat forming a wreath, surmounted by a five-pointed star, and supported at the base by an open book, all rendered in high relief. A horizontal line divides the lower field, where the denomination numeral '5' in Eastern Arabic script appears at centre, flanked on each side by a decorative cluster of grapes and vine leaves. Below the numeral, the Arabic-script legend 'افغاني' (Afghani) is inscribed, with the Afghan solar-calendar date '۱۳۶۰' (1360) directly beneath. The country name legend in Dari script curves along the upper periphery.
