Obverse description Central radiant Phrygian cap of liberty set upon a base inscribed LIBERTAD, emitting long triangular rays filling the field, flanked by the denomination '8R' to the right and assayer initials and fineness details within the circular legend. Two Thai royal countermarks are applied to the left field: the Mongkut (crown) symbol and the Chakra (wheel) symbol, each struck in individual punches, authenticating the coin for circulation in Siam under Rama IV. The circular border legend reads the date, mint mark, assayer initials, and fineness. The coin retains the reeded edge characteristic of Mexican republican coinage.
