The Pemerintah Revolusioner Republik Indonesia — the PRRI — was a short-lived rebel government proclaimed in February 1958 by Sumatran and Sulawesi officers opposed to Sukarno's centralization of power and his accommodation of the PKI. Its parallel administration issued currency to assert governmental legitimacy and fund operations, but the revolt was effectively crushed by mid-1958 through a combination of military force and political concession. Notes from the Celebes-designated issues are among the rarer products of that collapse.

By 1959, when this note was dated, the rebellion had already lost its military coherence. Whether this issue saw genuine circulation or was largely unissued stock is unclear.
