Adorf im Vogtland was a small Saxon textile town with no business issuing paper money — but in the summer of 1923, every municipal authority in Germany was doing exactly that. The Reichsbank could not print fast enough to keep pace with hyperinflation, and towns like Adorf were legally permitted to issue Notgeld to cover local payroll and commerce. By August 1923, five million marks was roughly the cost of a tram ticket.

Locally printed emergency issues from minor municipalities tend to show it — registration imprecision, ink variation, inconsistent paper stock across print runs.
