| Obverse description | Light blue-green guilloche underprint covers the entire field, with a fine wavy-line border frame enclosing the text area. The denomination "Fünf Millionen Mark" is rendered in large ornate blackletter (Fraktur) script at centre, superimposed over the guilloche. A vertical right-margin panel carries the numeral "5 Millionen" in large italic script. Coblenz sat inside the Allied-occupied Rhineland zone throughout the hyperinflation period, and local authorities — both the city district and the surrounding rural district jointly, an unusual dual-issuer arrangement — were forced to produce emergency Notgeld because the Reichsbank simply could not supply denominations fast enough to keep pace with the collapsing mark. By August 1923, when five-million-mark notes were a practical necessity for daily transactions, the velocity of inflation meant many such issues were obsolete within days of printing.
The joint Stadtkreis/Landkreis authority on a single note is administratively uncommon and worth noting for collectors tracking issuer classifications.
