Brombach was a small industrial municipality on the outskirts of Lörrach, and this note belongs to the most extreme phase of the German hyperinflation — late 1923, when municipal and private issuers across Baden were printing denominations that would have been unthinkable eighteen months earlier. Five billion marks from a village-level authority is not unusual for the period, but the local printing origin is worth noting: many comparable Notgeld issues from small Baden towns were farmed out to commercial printers in Freiburg or Karlsruhe, making genuinely Brombach-printed material slightly less common in the record.
