| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in dark brown and red on cream paper, divided into two distinct panels. The left panel carries a bold red-framed overprint indicating validity in the administrative districts of Aachen and Köln, valid until 1 April 1924. The right panel bears the denomination in large Gothic script reading 'Fünf Milliarden' above the numeral '5 000 000 000 Mark', set against a fine guilloche underprint; below, a block of text in Gothic script states the legal tender provisions, followed by the issue date 'Düren, den 15. Oktober 1923', a circular official Stadt Düren stamp, and the facsimile signature of the Oberbürgermeister, with a red serial number in the lower left. |

| Obverse lettering | Dieser Gutschein der Stadt Düren über Fünf Milliarden 5 000 000 000 Mark ist durch Hinterlegung von Reichsschatzanweisungen gedeckt. Er wird von den kommunalen Kassen- und Sparkassen, sowie den Banken des Kreises Düren in Zahlung genommen. Der Schein verliert seine Gültigkeit mit Ablauf einer Woche nach Aufruf in den Dürener Zeitungen. Die Stadtgemeinde Düren haftet für die Einlösung. Düren, den 15.
