| Reverse description | Double-headed imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread, bearing the quartered Habsburg arms on its breast within an ornate shield, and a small oval cartouche below displaying the denomination numeral 48. The eagle is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads ARCHI AVS E CA RIN DVX BVR ETC followed by the date, identifying Ferdinand II as Archduke of Austria, Duke of Carinthia, and Duke of Burgundy. The date 1623 appears within the legend at the top of the coin. The overall composition is characteristic of the debased Kipper und Wipper emergency coinage of the early 1620s. |
