Additional information

Issued as part of Paraguay's extensive 1970s commemorative gold program under Alfredo Stroessner, this piece honors Garibaldi's well-documented but often overlooked South American years — he spent nearly a decade in Uruguay and Brazil before returning to Italy, commanding forces in the Uruguayan Civil War and developing the guerrilla tactics he would later deploy in the Risorgimento campaigns. Paraguay produced these large-format gold issues primarily for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation, with Swiss and Italian firms heavily involved in their distribution.
