| Additional information |
Issued to mark the inauguration of the Puente de la Amistad connecting Ciudad del Este to Foz do Iguaçu, this coin appeared at a moment when Paraguay under Stroessner was aggressively courting Brazilian investment and infrastructure partnership. The bridge, opened in 1965, had taken a decade to generate an official commemorative — the delay likely a function of Paraguay's limited gold coinage program throughout the late 1960s.
The .900 fine gold specification places it among the heavier commemorative issues of the series, struck for collector sale rather than circulation.
