Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Vespasian facing right, rendered in the Roman imperial style characteristic of Flavian-era coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic features with a laurel wreath and paludamentum over the right shoulder. A rectangular Ostrogothic countermark bearing the value mark XLII (42 Nummi) has been applied to the left field of the coin, partially overlapping the bust. The surrounding legend runs along the periphery of the flan. The overall surface shows heavy green patination consistent with centuries of burial.
