Reverse description Central field bearing the denomination inscription in two lines, with the numeral '4' accompanied by a superscript fraction indicator for the half-réis above, and the word 'Reis' in large Roman lettering below, separated by a mid-point stop. The legends are boldly struck in relief against a plain field, with a rope or cable border running around the periphery of the flan. The hammered technique results in a characteristically irregular outline and uneven strike, consistent with Goa mint production of this period.
