| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara occupies the upper portion of the oval flan, flanked by the split date 20-00. Below the portrait, the Zambian coat of arms is depicted centrally, supported by a man and a woman. The legend ZAMBIA arcs above in the upper field, while the denomination 4000 KWACHA appears in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in a clean, uncluttered style befitting a proof-quality issue. |

| Additional information |
Issued as part of a wave of commemorative silver pieces that flooded the market around the turn of the millennium, this coin belongs to a period when Zambia's central bank licensed its coinage rights extensively to third-party distributors — primarily European firms targeting the collector market rather than domestic circulation. The Bank of Zambia produced little to no intention of these ever reaching a Zambian pocket.
Marco Polo's connection to Zambia is nonexistent; the subject was chosen purely for international collector appeal. KM#102 is catalogued among dozens of similarly themed issues from this era of Zambian numismatic licensing.
