(Translation: João V)
Reverse description The Cross of the Order of Christ occupies the center of the reverse, rendered in the characteristic Portuguese style with a plain cross superimposed upon a broader pattée cross. The four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross each contain the mint letter M, denoting the Vila Rica (Minas Gerais) mint, with all four M's arranged symmetrically around the central boss. The date is struck in the upper portion of the surrounding circular legend. The peripheral motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES encircles the entire design, punctuated by stops, and is rendered in well-spaced Latin capitals consistent with the coinage of João V.
