| Obverse description | Central field depicts a raised relief map of South America superimposed over a stylized globe with meridian and parallel lines. The dates 1532 and 1932 flank the lower portion of the map, commemorating the four-hundredth anniversary of Portuguese colonization. A circular raised border frames the central device, with the commemorative legend arranged around the periphery in capital Latin letters divided by lozenge-shaped stops. The overall design is rendered in a bold, Art Deco-influenced style characteristic of Brazilian coinage of the period. |
