Obverse description Saint Mark nimbed and seated facing right upon a recumbent lion, his right hand raised in benediction while his left hand extends a tall processional banner toward the kneeling Doge Alvise Mocenigo I at right, shown in full ducal robes with hands clasped in reverence. The mintmaster's initials M·S· (Marin Sanudo) appear in the lower exergue below a horizontal line. The Latin legend encircles the design within a beaded border, reading ·S·M·VENETVS ALOY·MOCE·, identifying Saint Mark of Venice and the reigning Doge.
