Obverse description The elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud II occupies the central field, rendered in the characteristic Ottoman calligraphic style with sweeping loops and ascending strokes. Below the tughra, the mint name Tripoli West (Tarabulus Gharb) and the AH regnal year 1223 are inscribed in Arabic script. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. The overall composition follows the standard Ottoman provincial mint format, with the royal cipher dominating the flan.

Reverse description The reverse is divided into horizontal registers bearing the Sultan's titles in Arabic calligraphy within a beaded border. The upper legend reads the honorific titles identifying Mahmud II as Sultan of the Two Lands and Khagan of the Two Seas, while the central field contains the dynastic formula 'the Sultan, son of the Sultan.' The regnal year numeral (in various forms: 1, 2, 3, B, or ornament) appears in the lower register, indicating the year of reign. The inscriptions are arranged in a tabular format typical of Ottoman provincial billon coinage of this period.
