| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in the ornate Ottoman calligraphic style with characteristic looped and scrolling strokes. Below the tughra, the mint name and AH regnal year are inscribed in Arabic script. The coin is struck on a broad flan with a beaded border encircling the entire design. The overall composition is typical of provincial Ottoman hammered coinage produced at Tripoli in North Africa. |
