Obverse description Greek countermark 'ΖΠ' (Zeta-Pi, abbreviation for 40 Para) applied in the central field of the host coin, rendered in bold Latin-style capital letters. The countermark is punched over the Ottoman tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid I from the host coin (Turkey KM-670, AH1255 year 21), elements of which remain partially visible beneath and around the applied stamp. The surrounding field retains the decorative arabesque scrollwork and floral motifs characteristic of the original Ottoman issue.
