Obverse description Facing helmeted and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I in three-quarter view, rendered in the late antique imperial style. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his right hand and bears a decorated shield in his left, the latter typically adorned with a horseman motif. A cross appears to the right of the bust within the field. The surrounding legend, executed in Latin characters, reads D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG, identifying the ruler as 'Our Lord Justinian, Perpetual Emperor.'
