| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique Byzantine imperial style. The emperor wears a pearl diadem and military cuirass with paludamentum draped over the left shoulder, typical of early Byzantine imperial portraiture. The encircling legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is set within a beaded border on the irregular hammered flan, with the field showing characteristic patination. |
