| Reverse description | Large mark of value M (= 40 nummi) dominates the central field, with a cross or decorative element above and the regnal year numeral between the uprights of the M. The letter A appears to the left of the M and N to the right, forming the flanking officina or value indicators. In the exergue, the mint signature NIKO identifies the Nicomedia mint. The design is bold and functional, characteristic of mid-Byzantine follis coinage. |
