| Obverse description | Facing effigies of Emperor Heraclius and Empress Martina standing side by side in imperial robes, each crowned with a cross-surmounted crown; Heraclius holds a long cross on steps between the two figures. A Latin legend runs around the periphery, largely worn, identifying the imperial couple. The style is characteristic of early 7th-century Byzantine hammered coinage, with frontal portraiture of a hieratic and stylized character. |
