| Obverse description | Full-length frontal effigy of Emperor Constans II depicted beardless, wearing an imperial crown and chlamys. In his right hand he holds a long staff surmounted by a Chi-Rho monogram, occasionally shown inverted, while his left hand cradles an orb. The figure is rendered in the flat, hieratic style characteristic of mid-seventh-century Byzantine coinage. A circumscribed legend in Greek encircles the imperial portrait within the field. |
