Obverse description Facing bust of Emperor Constans II, bearded and mustachioed, wearing a crown and imperial loros, holding a scepter surmounted by a cross in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left. The effigy is rendered in the flat, stylized manner characteristic of mid-seventh-century Byzantine coinage. The large mark of value M dominates the center of the design, with the emperor's figure framing it on either side. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat weak, as is typical of this series.

Reverse description The reverse displays the mint signature of Constantinople split across the field: KWN to the left and CTAN to the right of a central cross, with a star above the cross. The officina or date numeral, rendered as XG or XV, appears in the exergue below. The layout follows the standard Byzantine follis reverse convention of the period, with the city name divided on either side of a central motif.
