Igls is a small resort village above Innsbruck, and like hundreds of Austrian communes during the 1918–1921 Kleingeldersatz period, its Kurgemeinde issued notgeld to compensate for the near-total disappearance of small coinage from circulation. The Wagner printing house in Innsbruck handled a significant volume of these Tyrolean local issues, and the physical quality tends to be more consistent than notgeld produced by smaller provincial printers elsewhere in Austria.

The Kurgemeinde designation — a spa or health-resort administrative body — is the detail worth noting. Igls was functioning as a tourist and convalescent destination even during the war's aftermath, which gives this issuer a slightly different administrative character than a standard municipal Gemeinde.
