Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of the Kingdom of Greece — a quartered shield bearing a plain cross — is displayed centrally in the field, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is flanked on either side by a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base, creating a symmetrical heraldic composition. The denomination 40 ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ and the date 1852 are inscribed in Greek characters around the lower periphery of the coin.
