| Reverse description | Uniface green intaglio back dominated by an elaborate symmetrical guilloche pattern at centre, composed of concentric rosette and foliate lathe-work radiating outward to interlocking geometric bordure. The denomination numeral 40 appears in each of the four corners within ornate scroll cartouches, and fine engine-turned trellis work fills the remaining ground. The imprint of the American Bank Note Company, New York, appears at the lower margin. |
