Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XV facing left, with long flowing hair adorned with a laurel wreath, occupying the central field of the host French écu. A small crowned shield bearing the arms of Navarre is visible at the neck truncation. The surrounding legend reads LUD·XV·D·G·FR ET·NAV·REX·, identifying the king as Louis XV, by the grace of God King of France and Navarre. The portrait is rendered in the grand Baroque style typical of French royal coinage of the mid-18th century.
