Reverse description The reverse features a large floriated cross pattée occupying the central field, with trefoil terminals at each arm, characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage. The date 1764 is divided across the horizontal arms of the cross, with two numerals on each side. Abbreviated Latin legends are arranged around the periphery reading ST . ME . GR . SD, referencing the standard devotional formula of the period. The bold, geometric cross design is deeply struck and dominates the small gold flan.
