Obverse description Draped bust of Johann Georg I, Elector of Saxony, facing right, with armored shoulders visible. Surrounding the effigy is a continuous Latin legend incorporating the elector's name and the year 1617, divided as '16' and '17' flanking a mint mark in the form of a swan. Below the bust appears the quartered electoral coat of arms of Saxony, Jülich, Cleve, and Berg, with the central electoral shield. The overall composition reflects the formal portrait style of early seventeenth-century German Renaissance medallic art.
