Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Duke Heinrich Julius facing left, mounted on a caparisoned horse with elaborately decorated trappings, the duke wearing full plate armor surmounted by a plumed helmet. The figure is rendered in high relief with exceptional detail characteristic of early 17th-century German medallic art. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition within a beaded border, reading: HENRICVS IVLIVS D G POSTVI EPISCOP HALBE DV BRVNS ET LV.

Reverse description Elaborately mantled and helmeted coat of arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, comprising a large multi-quartered shield displaying the dynastic arms of the House of Welf, surmounted by multiple crested helms with ornate lambrequins extending to either side. The date 1608 appears in the left field. A Latin motto legend surrounds the shield within a beaded border, reading: HONESTVM PRO PATRIA.
